French, German nationals detained on Baikonur over attempt to film rocket
Kazakhstan's space agency Roscosmos said on Saturday it had detained two citizens of France and Germany at the Baikonur spaceport for attempting to take photographs of a rocket.
The detainees had been taken to a local police station and were being questioned, Roscosmos said in a statement. It did not provide any further details.
The Baikonur spaceport is located in Kazakhstan and is leased by Russia. It is the world's oldest and largest operational space launch facility.
The attempted filming of the rocket comes at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and the West over the war in Ukraine.
Russia has accused Western countries of providing military support to Ukraine and has warned that it will view any such support as an act of war.
The detention of the French and German nationals is likely to further strain relations between Russia and the West.
