Russian frigate Admiral Golovko embarks on first long-range voyage as part of the Northern Fleet group
Russian frigate Admiral Golovko, which is part of the Northern Fleet, departed on its first long-range voyage as part of a group of ships, the Fleet's press service reported.
The press service clarified that the frigate is accompanied by the medium sea tanker Sergey Osipov and the rescue tug Altai. The ships left the main base of the Northern Fleet, Severomorsk, and took a course to the Barents Sea.
The main purpose of the voyage is to ensure the naval presence of the Russian Federation in various regions of the World Ocean, as well as to demonstrate the capabilities of the Navy in solving problems of ensuring maritime security, the press service added.
The Admiral Golovko frigate was built in 2005 at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad and is designed to destroy enemy surface ships, submarines and aircraft. The ship is equipped with a 100-mm main-caliber gun mount, anti-aircraft missile and artillery systems, and anti-submarine torpedo weapons.
The Northern Fleet is one of the five operational-strategic associations of the Russian Navy. Its main tasks include ensuring the security of the Arctic, protecting the economic interests of the Russian Federation, and maintaining a balance of power in the northern and northeastern Atlantic.
