Kantimirov, a Crimean sentenced by the Russian Federation, was transferred to a colony in Buryatia - his wife
Crimean Tatar activist Artur Kantimirov, who was sentenced in absentia in Russia, was transferred to the Russian Federation
According to Gulnara Kantimirova, the wife of the Crimean political prisoner, the Russian side informed him that her husband had already been transferred to the Russian Federation. She said that on November 8, her husband was driven out of the Simferopol detention center "with things" and told that he would serve his sentence in the Russian Federation itself. However, neither he nor his lawyer were told where exactly. On October 10, it became known that Kantimirov was "transferred in an unknown direction" from the SIZO in Rostov-on-Don.
He defended his home from occupation
Artur Kantimirov is a 41-year-old veteran of the Crimean Tatar volunteer battalion named after Noman Celebi Dzhemilev. He is known as an activist of the Crimean Solidarity movement. On August 9, 2016, during searches in the Bakhchisaray district, he was detained on suspicion of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. According to the Russian authorities, he was part of an organized terrorist group and recruited other Muslims into it. The human rights organization Amnesty International in 2019 recognized Kantimirov as a prisoner of conscience and condemned his illegal detention and conviction in absentia.
