It's fabricated and propaganda: Taliban rejects UN report on situation of women in Afghanistan
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has rejected a UN report on the situation of women in Afghanistan, calling it "fabricated and propaganda."
The report, which was released on Tuesday, found that the Taliban has imposed severe restrictions on women's rights since taking over the country in August 2021. The report documents cases of women being beaten, detained, and killed for defying the Taliban's rules.
Mujahid said that the report was "baseless" and that the Taliban is committed to protecting women's rights under Islamic law.
He said that the Taliban has established a commission to investigate reports of violence against women and that the group is working to improve the situation of women in Afghanistan.
However, the UN report found that the Taliban has made little progress in improving the situation of women since taking power. The report found that the Taliban has continued to impose restrictions on women's movement, education, and employment.
The report also found that the Taliban has failed to investigate or prosecute cases of violence against women. The report called on the Taliban to take immediate steps to improve the situation of women in Afghanistan.
