Florian Gosens' goal secures away victory for Fiorentina against Genoa in the 10th round of Serie A
Fiorentina continued their Serie A resurgence with a 1-0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, thanks to Florian Gosens’ first-half goal.
The victory, Fiorentina's second in a row, lifted them to seventh in the Serie A standings, while Genoa remained in the relegation zone, just one point above the bottom three.
Fiorentina were the better side throughout the match, creating more chances and dictating the tempo of the game. They took the lead in the 29th minute when Gosens slotted home from close range after a cross from Cristiano Biraghi.
Genoa rarely threatened in the second half, as Fiorentina defended resolutely and limited the home side to a few half-chances. The closest Genoa came to an equalizer was in the 65th minute when Nicolo Rovella's shot from the edge of the area went just wide of the post.
Fiorentina held on for the victory, which moved them to within three points of the top four. Genoa, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last five matches and are facing an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
