The Star of 'Friends' and 'Tootsie' Had a Long and Successful Career

Actress Teri Garr, best known for her roles in the sitcom "Friends" and the film "Tootsie," has died at the age of 77.

Garr died at her home in Chappaqua, New York, on December 4, 2023, according to her publicist. She had been suffering from advanced ovarian cancer and had been receiving treatment for several years.

Garr's career spanned more than five decades, during which time she appeared in more than 100 films and television shows.

She made her film debut in the 1963 film "A New Kind of Love" and went on to star in such films as "Young Frankenstein" (1974), "The Conversation" (1974), "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), and "Mr. Mom" (1983).

On television, Garr was best known for her role as Phoebe Buffay's mother, Alice, on the sitcom "Friends." She also had recurring roles on the sitcoms "The Odd Couple" and "Cheers."

In addition to her work on screen, Garr was also a talented voice actress. She provided the voices for several characters in the animated film "The Incredibles" (2004) and its sequel "The Incredibles 2" (2018).

Garr was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1982 film "Tootsie." She also won a Golden Globe Award for her role in the 1975 film "Young Frankenstein."

Garr was married twice, first to actor John Pankow from 1984 to 1991 and then to actor Michael O'Neill from 1993 to 2006. She had two children, Molly O'Neill and Patrick Pankow.

Garr's death is a great loss to the entertainment industry. She was a talented actress who brought joy to audiences for more than five decades.
